Become a delegate to the 2012 AFT National Convention
Nominations due by March 29; delegates, alternates elected by secret ballot in April

OSEA is gathering nominations for 10 delegates who will represent our membership at the 2012 American Federation of Teachers (AFT) National Convention to be held July 26-31 in Detroit, Mich.

Interested members must submit their nomination forms to the OSEA State Office no later than midnight, March 29, 2012. Eligible candidates must be active members in good standing as outlined in the OSEA Constitution, Article III, Section 2. In addition, only those retirees who meet the criteria of dual membership — as outlined in Article V, Section 5 — are eligible for delegate and alternate status.

Once candidates are identified, delegates and alternates will be elected by a secret mail ballot in April. A ballot with each candidate listed in alphabetical order, voting instructions, a secrecy envelope and a postage-paid return envelope will be mailed to every OSEA member. All ballots must be mailed and will not be accepted in person.

All returned ballots will then be verified and tabulated by OSEA staff under the direct supervision of Executive Director Steven Araujo and President Bonnie Luisi.

Candidates not elected as delegates will be designated as alternates and ranked in descending order based on the number of votes received. An alternate will be called upon to fill a delegate vacancy based on this ranking.

The elected delegates will join four automatic delegates — three Board officers and a ROSE (Retired Oregon School Employees) delegate — in Detroit for the AFT National Convention. The OSEA delegation will help elect national officers as well as debate and vote on resolutions.
